DWG to DXF converter

Turn a DWG into a DXF that CNC, laser and other CAD programs can open.

DXF version

The newest DXF: for current CAD programs.

You get
  • A text DXFThe kind any CAD, CNC or laser program reads
  • Layers, blocks and layouts keptIn the version you pick
  • 3D solids keptWith their full shape

Files from AutoCAD R14 to 2018 open here. Newer AutoCAD releases still save in the 2018 format, so their files open too.

FAQ

Common questions

What goes into the DXF, what does not yet, and what stays private.

Is my drawing uploaded anywhere?

No. The converter runs inside your browser, so the drawing is read and the DXF is written on your own computer. Nothing is sent to a server.

Which DXF version should I pick?

DXF 2018 for current CAD programs. Older CNC, laser and cutting software often reads DXF 2000 best, so pick that if the newer one does not open.

Are 3D solids kept?

Yes. 3D solids and regions go into the DXF with their full shape, in every version from 2000 to 2018.

What is not in the DXF yet?

A table is saved as its lines and text, and section and detail view styles are left out. So is data only AutoCAD's own commands use, such as constraints and the history of 3D solids, and objects made by add-on programs, a few of which are drawn in the view. Lights, materials, visual styles and planar, extruded, revolved, lofted and swept surfaces come through. The result lists everything it left out.

Is it a text or a binary DXF?

A text (ASCII) DXF, the kind CAD, CNC and laser programs read. Our DWG vs DXF guide explains how the two files differ.
